Title

Community Grant for Williamsport Municipal Water Authority, PA - Tank Replacement

Document Number

N2026177

Document Type

CATEX

Project Description

The project proposes to replace the existing 500,000-gallon, 100-year-old, water storage tank with a new 1,000,000-gallon tank located near the existing structure. The existing tank, which is exhibiting signs of deterioration, provides potable water for 1,420 customers, and serves as a back-up water supply for an additional 1,645 customers. To maintain water supply throughout construction, the replacement tank will be constructed on land owned by Williamsport Municipal Water Authority (WMWA) near the existing water tank. Once operation is transferred to the replacement tank, the existing tank will be decommissioned and properly disposed. A chemical feed building with a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system will also be constructed near the replacement tank. SCADA integration with WMWA’s existing system will be completed by WMWA. The project also includes installation of a 12-inch diameter water main tying into the existing water distribution system. Excavation is anticipated to be 3.5 ft. deep on the north side of the tank and 15.5 ft. on the south side. Backfill depth ranges are expected to be between 4 ft. to 12 ft.
