Project Description

This proposed project will address failing on-lot sewage disposal systems causing ground and surface water contamination. The proposed project will provide public sanitary sewer service to approximately 60 homes that have failing on-lot sewer disposal systems on the Kiwanis Trail. The project will also provide for the immediate capacity for 75 new homes for a township approved preliminary land development plan, and future development in the area for approximately 225 more homes on 360 acres. In 2020, the Township planned a 3-phase approach to provide sewers to Kiwanis Trail homes. Phases 1 and 2 are installation of gravity sewers by Sandy Township employees to Kiwanis Trail homes in areas east of the Phase 3 project area. Phase 1 has been completed, and Phase 2 is expected to be completed in August 2026. This grant will fund Phase 3 which proposes to install gravity sewers to Kiwanis Trail homes and a sewer force-main from a future lift station. Phase 3 of the project will consist of the installation of approximately 9,000 linear feet of 8-inch gravity sewer pipe, 3,100 linear feet of 6-inch sewer force-main, 2,100 linear feet of 6-inch sewer lateral pipe, thirty-five (35) precast concrete manholes, sixty (60) sewer service laterals, one (1) wastewater pump station, surface restoration and all required appurtenances.
