Project Description

The proposed project consists of the installation of approximately 65,200 linear feet of water line, fire hydrant assemblies, and other minor components such as gate valves, air release valves, service settings, pressure reducing valves, and blow-off assemblies. The project site corridor follows Elk River Road, Leatherwood Road and other secondary roads. Much of the new water line being installed will be within the public right-of-way on previously disturbed land using an open trench method. Horizontal directional drilling is proposed for the most significant stream crossings to minimize environmental impacts. The proposed water line extension project will connect about 152 new customers to the public water supply. These customers currently rely on unregulated private water sources such as wells and cisterns, which pose significant health risks and provide an unreliable supply of water. The project will provide customers with improved drinking water quality, and a more reliable water supply for drinking water and fire protection.
