Document Number

Document Type

Project Description

The Independence Water Line Extension Project is a critical infrastructure project designed to provide safe and reliable drinking water to the community of Independence in Preston County, West Virginia. This proposed project will install approximately 31,720 feet of 4-inch PVC water mains and 5,910 feet of 2-inch PVC water mains to extend water service to approximately 43 potential new customers, including homes and a church. The project will connect to existing infrastructure, such as the Abandoned Mine Lands project and the Scotch Hill Water Storage Tank, to provide reliable water pressure and service to areas at higher elevations. Additionally, the project aims to eliminate a problematic constant-pressure pumping station, replacing it with a more reliable distribution system connected to the Scotch Hill tank. Designed to meet or exceed West Virginia Department of Health standards, the project also includes the installation of gate valves, air release assemblies, and pressure regulators to ensure operational efficiency and compliance. By extending water service to a previously underserved area, the project addresses longstanding issues with unreliable and poor-quality private water supplies, enhancing the quality of life and public health for residents.
