Project Description

This Proposed Action is one component of a larger project to bring drinking water from the City of Sanford Water Filtration Facility (WFF) to the Town of Fuquay-Varina and the Town of Holly Springs. The larger project would include construction of a common 13.4-mile, 36-inch transmission main from the Sanford WFF to a single site with two 1.5 MG (million gallon) ground storage tanks and individual booster pumping stations (BPS) for the Town of Fuquay-Varina and the Town of Holly Springs. Both BPS would have individual water transmission mains to convey water to the respective distribution systems. The current Proposed Action is the conveyance line from the BPS to the Town of Fuquay-Varina. The line would consist of 8,188 feet of 30-inch water main from the proposed BPS site near the intersection of Buckhorn-Duncan Road and Duncan Cook Road in Wake County, NC, to Piney Grove-Wilbon Road and 15,899 feet of 24-inch main to connect the 30-inch main to the existing 16-inch asbestos cement pipe on the east side of Highway 55.
