Project Description

The purpose for this proposed project is to extend water service to the nearby community of Riverside Rest and to repair or replace various parts of the water distribution system and water treatment plant. The project will construct approximately 89,000 linear feet of new water line and a 100,000-gallon water storage tank. The Riverside Rest residents are currently served by a system of private wells. The expansion will provide water service to 165 customers in the Riverside Rest area. This added capacity represents a 23% increase to the existing customer base. This project will also address multiple items across the Town of Alderson’s existing distribution system. Several sections of water line are undersized or suspected of containing leaks, and numerous valves and hydrants are non-functioning. This project will replace these items that could prove hazardous during an emergency. Furthermore, along with the work within the distribution system, several items at the water treatment plant will be addressed. This includes the replacement of filter media, high service pump impellers, chlorine system injectors, and components within the up-flow clarifiers. Each of these items have exceeded their usable life span. A spare backwash pump will also be added to reduce system downtime when maintenance or repairs are needed.
