Document Number

Document Type

Project Description

The City of Hazard is proposing to construct a new water treatment plant (WTP) located in Buckhorn, Kentucky, to help increase the water capacity available in the potable water system for residents and businesses in Northern Perry County, including the Buckhorn Community, Chavies Community, and Coal Fields Regional Industrial Park. The new WTP will be located just downstream of the Buckhorn Dam Tailwater Channel and Squabble Creek confluence on the Middle Fork of the Kentucky River. The Project will include the construction of an intake structure in the Middle Fork Channel, and the new WTP will be located on the east side of the channel. Project components include the construction of a 3-million-gallon-per-day (MGD) package plant with redundant filtration, raw water pumps and piping, pre-treatment, wet well, turbidity monitoring equipment, disinfection circuit, and high service pumps to Clearwell storage tank for distribution. The project also includes an on-site administrative office and laboratory. Should funds be left over, the City of Hazard would also replace nearly 102,000 linear feet of the existing 6 and 8-inch water lines with a 14 and 16-inch transmission line from the proposed Buckhorn WTP to the Coal Fields Regional Industrial Park.
