Project Description

The City of Ravenswood (City) owns and operates a sewage collection system and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) that is designed to treat an average daily flow of 750,000 gallons per day in Jackson County, West Virginia. The WWTP has failed to reliably meet its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit effluent limits for ammonia nitrogen. Also, the WWTP does not have the capacity to treat flows from the City’s ongoing sewer system extension project. The EPA’s funding for this action will support the construction of a new 2.3 million gallon per day Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) wastewater treatment plant at the “old plant” site, installation of a new 24-inch force main, upgrades to an existing pumping station, decommissioning of the existing wastewater treatment lagoons, and reclaiming the site.
