CATEXProject Description
The Nome Joint Utility System (NJUS)/City of Nome proposes water and sewer improvements in the city of Nome to East 6th Avenue, ending at Greg Kruschek Avenue, also known as the Nome Bypass Road), for approximately 920 feet and the reconstruction of Greg Kruschek Avenue for approximately 1000 feet. The plans call for the reconstructing the manhole at the intersection of East N Street and East 6th Avenue. The project will also install new sewer pipe for 920 feet to the east and a minimum of three sewer manholes. At a minimum horizontal distance of 10 feet and a vertical distance of 1.5 feet, a waterline will also be installed within undisturbed material in the same roadway. Excavation may be required for up to a depth of 12 feet of undisturbed material to install manholes. The documentation in the workplan demonstrates a pipe section beneath the existing ground layer from 0-6 feet with an over excavated depth of up to 17 feet yielding a maximum depth of 20 feet of undisturbed soil being removed in order to remove ice-rich silts that are prone to melting and resettling. This also includes sewer and water connections to homes.EPA Region/Headquarters Office
