Title

EPA Community Grant for the Septic to Sewer Conversion Project in Homestead, FL

Document Number

N2024316

Document Type

CATEX

Project Description

In the City of Homestead, FL, climate change-induced sea level rise and precipitation changes are resulting in elevated groundwater levels, which subsequently reduces a septic system’s ability to fully treat discharged wastewater. To address this issue, the Project will convert approximately 100-120 homes in the northwestern and northcentral parts of the City from using septic tanks to systems connected to the City’s sewer system, without the need to upgrade the capacity of the City of Homestead Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This involves installing new gravity sewer main connections within the existing right-of-way in an area bound on the west by Roberts Road (NW 6th Avenue), the east by NW 1st Avenue, the north by NW 15th Street, and the south by NW 13th Street as well as an area between NW 1st and NW 2nd Avenues between NW 15th and NW 18th Streets. The new connections will send wastewater directly to the City of Homestead WWTP for treatment.
