Title
EPA Community Grant for Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie River/C-23 Water Quality Project - McCarty Ranch Area 5, FL.Document Number
N2024295Document Type
CATEXProject Description
The purpose of this project is to divert nutrient laden water from the C-23 Canal and reduce total freshwater discharges into the St. Lucie River. Since the C-23 Canal receives inflow from both agricultural and urban land uses, it carries a high nutrient load into the St. Lucie Estuary and the Indian River Lagoon. The impoundments will reduce the pollution into the estuaries to help achieve lower Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDL) for Phosphorus (TP), Nitrogen (TN) and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). In addition, the impoundments will ensure water supply, reduce flooding, and increase groundwater recharge.EPA Region/Headquarters Office
