Title

EPA Community Grant for the North Pearl Interceptor Rehabilitation Project, MS

Document Number

N2024296

Document Type

CATEX

Project Description

The City of Pearl, Mississippi is proposing to rehabilitate an existing interceptor gravity main that serves over 4,000 residential properties in the north and central areas of Pearl. The Project will include the replacement of 1,475 linear feet of 36-inch diameter sewer, 725 linear feet of 30-inch diameter sewer, 6,800 linear feet of 27-inch diameter sewer, and 1,740 linear feet of 24-inch diameter sewer. The Project will also rehabilitate existing manholes in the interceptor system by cleaning, repairing broken or missing mortar, and lining the interior of the manholes with solids epoxy, or constructing new manholes. The existing interceptor is located along North Bierdeman Road, Gulf Line Road, and Flynn Drive. The existing interceptor was installed over 40 years ago; it is in poor condition, is a source of significant infiltration/inflow during weather events and has a history of pipe failures requiring point repairs. Rehabilitating the interceptor will decrease the amount of infiltration/inflow during wet weather events, reduce the amount of wastewater that needs to be treated, lower the risk of sanitary sewer overflows to nearby surface waters, and eliminate the need for future costly point repairs.
