Gardner MA FY2023 Community Grant for Water Transmission Main Project Environmental DeterminationDocument Number
N2024291Document Type
CATEXProject Description
The City is seeking federal funds through an EPA Community Grant to install approximately 2,200 linear feet of new 16-inch ductile iron transmission main from the Crystal Lake Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to the James Street water storage tanks. This project replaces an existing 16-inch diameter cast iron transmission supply main installed in the 1880s. The transmission mains will be installed along James Street and Heywood Street. The new ductile iron water main will install gate valves that will allow for a shut-down of the transmission main during emergencies and for maintenance and repair. The existing cast iron transmission supply main will be abandoned in place. The Project is a critical piece of infrastructure in getting treated drinking water to customers and maintaining needed fire flows in Gardner.EPA Region/Headquarters Office
