EPA FY23 CDS: Environmental Assessment/Finding of No Significant Impact - Lafayette (LA) Consolidated Government Sanitary Sewer ProjectDocument Number
N2024137Document Type
EA/FONSIProject Description
The proposed project will address the frequent sewer system overflows (SSOs) in downtown Lafayette. The infrastructure servicing the downtown area is over 80 years old and relies on antiquated systems and materials to service structures in the area resulting in large amounts of stormwater entering the sewer system during rain events, also referred to as Inflow and Infiltration (I&I). This I&I overloads the current capacity of the existing gravity-fed sewage system leading to bottlenecks, backups, and overflows throughout the area. Although regular inspection, identification, and maintenance is conducted, the current system still cannot handle heavy precipitation events without experiencing SSOs.EPA Region/Headquarters Office
