Project Description

The project purpose is to expand the landfill and create a solid waste processing facility that enables the City of King Cove to safely and properly dispose of waste generated by the community, active harbor, and large seafood processing facility for the next 20 to 25 years. The project components would include construction of a sorting and handling solid waste building; the purchase of two air curtain burners (also sometimes called air curtain destructors); and the procurement of solid waste handling equipment. Congress appropriated $3 million earmarked for the City of King Cove for the landfill expansion under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 (P.L. 117 – 103) to build capacity and purchase the new processing equipment for the landfill.
