Project Description

The Greenbrier County Public Service District No. 2 (District) is located in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, and serves approximately 736 customers within Greenbrier County. The District intends to construct two water line extensions. One extension will serve approximately 110 residents in the currently unserved area between the Town of Rainelle and the unincorporated community of Charmco, and the second extension will serve approximately 165 residents in the currently unserved area between the unincorporated areas of Sam Black Church and Clintonville. By extending the District’s water distribution system, this project will address the water supply needs of low-income communities in rural Appalachia and provide water to new customers who currently rely upon inadequate individual groundwater well systems. The project will establish the infrastructure necessary to improve fire protection, attract new businesses and create jobs in the area. Finally, the project will pave the way for future water supply extensions. The District’s long term plans include extending service from Clintonville to the community of Alta, and from Alta to Asbury, Williamsburg, and Trout, and ultimately connecting with the City of Lewisburg’s water system. To complete this current project, Greenbrier County Public Service District No. 2 will combine EPA grant funds with financial assistance from the West Virginia Governor’s Fund and other funding sources
