Project Description

The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 (P.L. 117-103) included $1,226,000 earmarked for the City of Klawock, Alaska, for the renovation and equipment purchases for the baling facility. The project addresses the need to meet the new solid waste rules that require all transshipment of solid waste to be baled prior to being placed in containers and transported via ship to Washington State. The EA evaluates the issuance of a grant award to the City of Klawock, Alaska, for the renovation and equipment purchases for a baling facility. The baling facility will be located within the existing, enclosed Transfer Station building at the City of Klawock existing Class III Municipal Solid Waste Landfill, located at Mile 3.4 of Craig-Klawock Highway. There will be no ground disturbance associated with acquiring a baler and retrofitting the existing Transfer Station building to accommodate the new equipment.
