Project Description

The project entails generator replacement at the Seymour Wellfield – minor upgrading of an existing drinking water supply system. To address concerns relative to the age, proximity, and current elevation of the generator, the Regional Water Authority (RWA) proposes to remove its existing generator from its existing location and install a replacement generator at a new location within the site, closer to the electrical building, and further away from the Housatonic River. The generator will be located approximately 150 feet from the Housatonic River, and it will be located above the 100-year flood elevation. Work within the floodplain includes razing the existing generator structure, installing a new generator above the flood elevation, and regrading the site. The work will be conducted such that there will be no net fill placed within the floodplain or floodway. A compensatory storage volume of approximately 27.4 cubic yards will be created at the existing generator location to compensate for lost floodplain storage at the proposed generator location. In general, the final grades on average will be within 18 inches of the existing grades. The new generator will be located outside of the existing fence and within previously disturbed areas of the site. The existing fence will be removed and relocated east of the newly installed generator. Additional exterior work includes installation of electrical conduit at the new driveway. The removal of four pine saplings (three 5’-7’ height and one 10’ height) is proposed as part of the project. Silt fencing around the project activity will be utilized as temporary means of sediment and erosion control.
