Project Description

The Erie County Water Authority’s Strategic Plan Improvements Project consists of three project components described below. • The Sturgeon Point Water Treatment Plant project involves replacing the plant’s filter gallery piping and valves, washwater supply header, underdrain system and media that are all past their expected useful life. ECWA will also retrofit all existing filters with air/water backwash capabilities and construct related improvements to HVAC, instrumentation, and electrical systems. • The Powdered Activated Carbon Systems project involves rehabilitating the Powder Activated Carbon Systems at the Sturgeon Point and Van De Water treatment plants. This project involves the demolition of the existing powdered activated carbon slurry mixers, pumps, piping systems, carbon room heating and ventilation systems at both ECWA facilities, the installation of new mixers, pumping equipment, piping, carbon room heating and ventilation systems, and associated instrumentation/electrical upgrades to the existing facilities. • The Richard F. Ball Pumping Station Project involves both pump station improvements and yard piping improvements. The pump station improvements include replacement of all five pumps with six new 800 HP horizontal spit case pumps equipped with variable frequency drives, replacement of pump suction and discharge piping, installation of new cushioned check valves and surge relief system improvements. The Yard Piping Improvements include replacement of buried 48-inch and 54-inch piping between two water storage tanks, replacement of buried 60-inch located south of the pump station building with two 48-inch pipes for redundancy. The project also includes the addition of a parallel main and other piping improvements to remove a single point of failure at the current 48-inch transmission main.
