Gerry Pond Park Water Quality Improvements ProjectDocument Number
N2018033Document Type
EA/FONSIProject Description
Gerry Pond Park Water Quality Improvements project is to enhance the water quality of Hempstead Harbor by increasing the water storage capacity in Lower (also known as Gerry Pond or Roslyn Pond), Middle, and Upper Ponds through removal of sediments; regrading the three ornamental artificial pools; removing invasive vegetation and creating treatment wetlands along the Lower Pond shoreline; and constructing a stormwater sedimentation basin in Lower Pond to remove sediments/floatables; and reconfigure connecting streams in between the ponds and pools; and reconstructing the Upper Pond spillway. Increasing the water depth in the ponds will improve the bacterial deterioration of contaminants; will increase pond storage capacity to assist with moderating water temperature and oxygen fluctuations; and will promote wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities throughout Gerry Pond Park.EPA Region/Headquarters Office
